Austria Wien – Salzburg
Austria Wien hosts the champion Salzburg in a match from the last 36th round of the Austrian Bundesliga. Let’s see what’s going on with these two teams.
Austria are 7th in the Bundesliga with 40 points. They are 3 points behind the 6th Mattersburg, so on theory they can finish 6th in the final standings. But only of they beat Salzburg and in same time Mattersburg loses against LASK Linz.
So far Austria have a record of 11 wins, 7 draws and 17 defeats. In their last five games they are showing a pretty bad form – one draw and four defeats. WIth a form like this, it’d be pretty hard for them to beat the best team in the league. More than difficult.
In the previous round Austria suffered a 0-2 defeat during the visit to St. Pölten. It was a pretty mediocre game for Austria and unsurprisingly they suffered a defeat.
Salzburg are once again champions of Austria. They won the title in a comfortable way, being 14 points ahead of the 2nd Sturm Graz. Right now Salzburg have 83 points and a record of 25 wins, 8 draws and 2 defeats. In their last five matches Salzburg are absolutely flawless – five consecutive wins.
In their last game the champions enjoyed a 1-0 win at home against Mattersburg. The only goal in the game was scored by Fredrik Gulbrandsen in the last seconds of the match. The Norwegian striker came off the bench and won the game for his team.
There’s a little doubt that Salzburg are the best team by far in Austria. They proved their strenght in Europe, too, by reaching the 1/2-finals of Europa League. Next season they will try to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League as well.
