Basel – Luzern

The champion Basel hosts Luzern in a game from the 22th round of the Swiss Super League.

Just as it was expected before the start of the season, Basel are dominating the league, having a groundbreaking advantage of 17 points in front of Young Boys. It’s absolutely clear that Basel are going to clinch just another title in the league and there’s nobody who can stop them from doing so.

Luzern are currently 4th in the standings, for now securing a qualification for the Europa League. They have an advantage of 8 points in front of St. Gallen, so for now they could be calm about their place in European football next season.

After losing its visit to Young Boys few weeks ago, Basel once again showed their strenght and won four consecutive games in the Super League. In 21 games played, Basel won 18. Two times they shared the points with another team and they lost only once – against Young Boys. Urs Fischer’s team also have the best attack and the best defense in the league – 59 goals scored and just 18 conceded.

Luzern on the other hand are not really that consistent lately. They won just two of their last five games and lost once. They are still a solid team in the Super League, but obviously not on Basel’s level.

After finishing 4th in the Champions League group stage, now Basel can concentrate entirely on the Super League, marching towards another title. This club is dominating Swiss football from years and for now it doesn’t look like its domination is about to end.

In the last round Basel showed some problems in defense, conceding 3 goals against Lausanne Sport at home, but in same time Urs Fischer’s boys scored four. So even when this team’s defense is not working, the strikers are saving the day.
