Bayern Munich – Besiktas

Champions League clash between two teams that are champions of their countries. Bayern Munich hosts Besiktas in a first 1/8-final game from the Champions League at the beautiful Allianz Arena in Munich.

Bayern Munich had a tough task in the group stage of the competition, when they had to meet the new European force PSG. The Bavarians managed to beat the French team at home and finished with the same amount of points as them, but PSG’s better stats allowed them to win the first place.

But even with finishing second in their group, Bayern had a luck during the draw. Besiktas are a good team, but they are certainly not on Bayern’s level.

Besiktas on the other hand managed to win their group in the company of Porto, RB Leipzig and Monaco. Many people thought that the Black Eagles would be total outsiders in this group, but they finished their participation unbeaten.

For the last time Bayern Munich won the Champions League five years ago – in 2013. It’s curious that in this season they were led by the man who coaches them now too – Jupp Heynckes. He’s a manager with an enormous experience and now everyone in Munich hopes that he will once again lead Bayern to European glory.

Since Heynckes replaced the sacked Carlo Ancelotti, Bayern are playing very good. They are convincing leaders in the Bundesliga and the title is pretty close to them. But the big goal remains winning the Champions League for a sixth time.

At Besiktas they probably understand that they are the underdogs here. They already did enough to remember this participation in the Champions League with good feelings. It’s hard to thing that the Turkish team can trouble a giant like Bayern, but in football everything is possible, right?
