German Bundesliga
Can anyone possibly stop Bayern Munich from winning the Bundesliga for fifth time in a row this season? That’s the question which everyone is asking with the start of the new football campaign in German football.
It was a busy summer for Bayern Munich. The Bavarians were left by their manager Josep Guardiola, who chose to continue his career in the English Premier League. He was replaced by another top name though – Carlo Ancelotti, who surely knows how to win trophies. And while winning the Bundesliga looks like an certainity, Ancelotti’s biggest goal remains another triumph in the Champions League – the competition which Pep Guardiola was unable to conquer as a Bayern Munich manager.
So far Bayern did some brilliant business on the transfer market, improving their squad with two players of a very high quality. That’s the German international Mats Hummels, regarded as one of the best central backs in modern football, and Portugal’s new wonderkid Renato Sanches, who is a terrific investment for the future of the club. The club was left by another German international – Mario Gotze, who chose to return to his former club Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking of Borussia Dortmund, this is probably the only team who could possibly break Bayern’s hegemony in the Bundesliga. It was a very busy transfer summer for Dortmund, with the club spending more than 100 million euro for new players. The most expensive of them being Andre Schurrle, who was bought for 30 million euro from Wolfsburg. Mario Gotze, Ousmane Dembele, Sebastian Rode, Raphael Guerreiro, Marc Bartra, Emre Mor and Mikel Merino are the other new signings, who must help Dortmund to win the hard battle with Bayern for the gold medals. In same time the club was left by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan and Jakub Blaszczykowski, who were among the key players in the team in the last few years.
And while Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are about to lead a glorious battle for the championship once again, it remains to be seen which teams will succeed in qualifying for the Champions League next season. Clubs like Schalke 04, Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Borussia M’gladbach are the obvious contenders for the Top 4, but who knows if we are about to see some major surprises from other teams as well. One thing is for sure – the Bundesliga is always exciting to watch, so prepare yourself for what’s ahead of us.
