Ireland – Denmark
Republic of Ireland welcomes Denmark at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin in a match from the last round of the European qualifiers. The visitors are playing to win the group, while most likely Ireland will finish third in the standings.
On theory Ireland still have chances to beat Switzerland for the second place, because they are just two poitns behind them with only one round to go. The problem is that Switzerland’s last game in the group is a visit to the outsider Gibraltar and only a madman would think they will make a mistake there. So, no matter what happens in Dublin, most likely Republic of Ireland will finish at third place in the group table.
The Irish side had really good chances to win one of the first two places in the group, but their poor form hurt them. In their last three games in the group Ireland are without a win – two draws and one loss. In the previous round they got beaten at home by Switzerland, which made them lose the second place.
For Denmark it’s really important to win this game, because that’s the only way they could finish first and win the group. Right now the Scandinavians are just one point ahead of the 2nd Switzerland and how we said, it’s almost sure that the Swiss team will win its last game.
In their last five games Denmark are showing great shape. The Red Dynamite won four of them and made one draw. Right now Denmark are the only unbeaten team in this group with four wins and three draws. In their last game Age Hareide’s boys scored a 6-0 win against Gibraltar in Copenhagen.
That’s what we had to say about the European qualifier between Republic of Ireland and Denmark on Monday. This match looks more important to the visitors, but it doesn’t mean that the hosts will give them a go.
