Liverpool – Porto
When Porto and Liverpool met at the Estadio Do Dragao in a first Champions League 1/8-final, nobody expected such a result. But Liverpool absolutely crushed the Portuguese team, beating it with 5-0 away from home. Now these two teams will meet once again at the legendary Anfield and the Reds will try to finish the job.
It’s really unexplainable how Porto conceded such a devastating loss in the first leg. They are not as bad as the result is showing, plus they had the advantage to play at home. But the truth is that Jurgen Klopp’s boys played a brilliant game, especially Sadio Mane who scored a hattrick against the Dragons.
There’s not much to be said about this game. Liverpool are already thinking about the draw for the 1/4-finals. But they still have to play this second leg and they have to perform good, because there will be thousands of fans who paid big amount of money to see them.
Liverpool are hungry for another big breakthrough in the Champions League. It’s been 11 years since they reached the CL final for a last time. The Reds have big traditions in this competition, so for them it’s important to perform well.
For Porto it’s all a matter of honour and dignity. The 0-5 loss in the first game surely hurt Porto and their fans. The Dragons are one of the great clubs of Portugal, so for them it’s not acceptable to lose like this. It’s clear that they don’t have chances to reach the next phase of the tournament, but they could still quit the competition with dignity.
We don’t expect something dramatic between Liverpool and Porto at the Anfield. The Reds will just have to finish what they started, while Porto will try to perform better than the last time.
